Board Chair Cluster Gatherings
Recognizing the fact that pastors regularly gather for the sake of support, encouragement, resourcing and communication, this initiative has been engaged in order to provide church board chair and church leaders a similar experience. Typically the cluster has met twice each year, although the schedule is flexible and subject to change depending on the interest and needs of participants. Having begun in the Edmonton area the churches that have participated through their board chair and/or representatives are:
- Central Baptist
- Greenfield Baptist
- Hillview Baptist
- Leduc Fellowship
- McKernan Baptist
- Northgate Baptist
- Parkland Baptist
- Steele Heights Baptist
- Terwillegar Community
- Wiesenthal Baptist
- Zion Baptist
At present plans are underway to engage a similar effort in the Calgary area with the hope that this will become an Association wide involvement in the future. In Calgary the effort is being led by Markus Lemke of Brentview and Reinhart Issler of Thornhill.
During the Board Chair Cluster Gatherings the first part of the evening is dedicated to governance issues facing local churches. Each participant is given the opportunity to share regarding those issues their board is dealing with or has been facing in recent months. During the second half of the evening time is dedicated to discussing one governance issues that is common to all. To date, in the Edmonton area cluster the focus topics have included:
- Board Member Development – How board members are being trained and equipped
- Board Self-Assessment – How boards measure and evaluate their own effectiveness
- Strategic Planning – How boards establish a sense of direction for the church as a whole
