Connecting Opportunities

Within the course of every year, numerous events and activities are provided for ABA pastors, church leaders and representatives to come together for encouragement, relationship building, instruction, and inspiration. Whenever we gather, whether in small groups or large, we always make it clear that all our activities are designed to fulfill the mission of the ABA which is to, Connect and enable churches to impact their communities for the growth and advancement of the kingdom of God in Alberta and the world.

Although some new events may be planned from time to time, the regular events are:

Pastor’s Connection

Held twice each year in Edmonton and Calgary, Pastor’s Connection is designed as an opportunity for fellowship and relationship development. We also use this as an opportunity for communication and instruction regarding issues and opportunities that affect the ABA as a whole and individual churches. This event is uniquely designed for all pastors and pastoral staff of ABA churches.

Future Dates:

Wednesday, May 3, 2017 @ West Meadows Baptist Church, Edmonton

Thursday, May 4, 2017 @ Thornhill Baptist Church, Calgary

Each year, in the Spring and Fall, the ABA hosts ReNew events in the five regions of the association in an effort to challenge, encourage and equip church leaders to better serve as agents of the kingdom of God. Although pastors are always welcome, the desire is to have the non-pastoral church leaders come together for a time of community, collaboration and learning.

In the Fall, the focus is intentionally internal. We seek to address issues of ministry development, strategy, governance and leader development. We listen to church leaders and seek to provide something that helps them lead more effectively within local church situations.

In the Spring, the ReNew focus is external in nature. Here we seek to bring resources and help in addressing the community impact efforts of local ministries. Again we listen to church leaders and seek to bring something that is value-added as we help churches rise to the opportunities God has given.

Each Renew event begins with a meal and then progresses to teaching, conversation around tables and a shared learning and growing experience.

Our hope is that entire church boards and leadership teams will come. We can help each other, learn from each other and become stronger in the effort to advance the kingdom of God in Alberta and the world.

Ministry Workers and Family Retreat

Hosted at Camp Caroline in the Rocky Mountain area of Alberta each February, this event is an opportunity for ABA pastors and church ministry staff families to enjoy a few days of fellowship, recreation and inspiration. Activities are provided for children while the parents enjoy worship and an inspirational speaker. The schedule also provides lots of opportunity to enjoy outdoor recreation or the many amenities of Camp Caroline.

Future Date:  Sunday, January 29 - Wednesday, February 1, 2017 - Camp Caroline

Welcome To Team Alberta

Given the number of new pastors and vocational ministry personnel become part of the ABA each year, this event is designed as somewhat of an orientation to the ABA. Held every other year, new pastors, vocational ministry staff and their spouses are introduced to the mission and ministry of the ABA as well as to several of our ministry partners, including: the North American Baptist Conference, Camp Caroline, Taylor Seminary and E.P. Wahl Centre and The Mustard Seed.

Future Date: September 2017

Banff Pastor and Spouse’s Conference

Each year in November, North American Baptist pastors and spouses from Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia gather in Banff, AB, for an outstanding time of worship, inspiration and relaxation. This event is a good reminder that the ABA is part of a larger ministry that stretches far beyond Alberta, and it is an opportunity to build relationships with pastoral colleagues from across western Canada. Those who attend enjoy the wonder of Banff National Park, the exceptional amenities of Banff Park Lodge, encouragement and challenge from outstanding speakers. Renewal, relaxation and rest are the order of the day.

Future Dates: Thursday, November 9 - Sunday, November 12, 2017

Retired and Semi-Retired Ministry Workers Gathering

In an effort to honour those who have served with faithfulness and distinction in the past, and to keep them connected with the mission and ministry of the ABA, this gathering is a morning of refreshment, sharing and prayer. At times there are topics or issues to discuss while at other times the time is more relaxed. The most important thing we do is express gratitude for the role models these servants have been for those who have followed in their footsteps.

Future Date:  Thursday, December 7, 2017 @ TBD

Annual Business Session - Online

Annual Conference

Every Spring, pastors and representatives from ABA churches gather in one place to celebrate what God is doing in and through churches of the ABA. The emphasis is on fellowship, celebration and inspiration. Hosted by one, or a group of ABA churches, it is in this event that we gain a greater sense of what God is doing and what can happen as more than 60 churches partner together to fulfill the mission God has given us.

Future Date: March 31 - April 1, 2017 @ South Calgary Community Church, Calgary
